Workshops

We design two-hour to multi-day workshops to achieve your specific objectives. These sessions, rooted in participatory leadership, allow attendees to contribute their unique perspectives to co-create and get their hands around complex topics.

Coaching

We pose powerful questions as our build challenges during individual and team sessions. Coachees explore different outlooks, gain clarity on complex ideas, and test out their hypothesis in a safe setting.

What is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?

Developed in the 1990s by the LEGO Group® and two professors from IMD in Switzerland, the well-researched methodology capitalizes on the power of “hands-on, minds-on” play. By engaging through multiple modalities, participants tap into their ability to imagine. Through rich reflection and dialogue, they can better understand the challenges at hand. The simple four-part process allows participants to create 3D prints of their thoughts to articulate their own ideas more clearly and understand those of their peers. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® unleashes the full potential of individuals by enabling all employees the opportunity to participate, contribute, and commit to a unified path forward.

Applications of LEGO® Serious Play®

Levels of LSP builds. The first row has individual build use cases: Coaching, idea development, values & behaviors. The second row features different shared models: innovation and mission + vision. A block clalled team building spans across the first and second row. The third row shoes the level 3 system build use cases: strategy and scenario planning + testing.

Level 1 | Individual Models

Participants construct a model that serves as their answer to a build challenge. After building, they take turns narrating the story of their model. They imbue specific bricks with meaning using metaphors. They tap through their model to direct listeners’ attention and respond to questions.

Level 2 | Shared Models

Participants co-create a build by adding key components gathered from Level 1 models and new bricks as needed. Participants take turns sharing the story of the build as it emerges. If questions or disagreements arise, the participants will moderate the discussion via the model(s) created to reduce conflict.

Level 3 | System Models

Participants construct mini-builds known as agents after completing and aligning on Level 2 models. These agents are placed around the shared build at different distances and linked together and to the primary model using specialized bricks. The group can then move agents to consider how they might affect other elements in the system.

Capture Book

We document models, insights, and reflections shared throughout sessions to allow participants to remain fully present. We then collate this information in beautifully designed files to encourage ongoing dialogue, increase retention, and drive accountability post-session.

Recommendations

During engagements, we remain a neutral party for your group to surface insights and co-create solutions. Based on your conclusions and our observations, we can provide actionable recommendations based on our experience* designing and deploying solutions.

Case Study: Vision & Behaviors Workshop

A regional leadership team at a top, global management consulting firm scheduled a multi-day retreat which included several LSP sessions, leadership skills building, and the creation of an agile backlog. The LEGO segments were design to help the group bond, create a shared vision for the next year, and identify behaviors that would support or hinder the execution of this vision.

Case Study: Impact & Environment Workshop

A small, boutique consulting firm specializing in the development of ethical, financial sustainability practices had seen a boom in their business in a 12 month period. While the team received glowing reviews from their clients, members felt overwhelmed with the number of projects. Throughout two half-day online sessions, we worked to generate shared language around the firm’s signature product, identify opportunities to optimize workflow and maximize client impact, and co-create an ideal environment for all members of the team to thrive.

Case Study: Mission Alignment

A 100+-year-old municipal organization that provides facilities, services, and programs to benefit its community was in the process of developing a comprehensive strategic plan with a leading boutique consultancy. Through a series of workshops (35+ participants/session), we deployed LEGO Serious Play to capture insights across all staff members, the executive and the board. Groups explore three primary areas to identify priorities, actions, and tactics along with financial considerations to shape the final comprehensive strategic plan.

Case Study: Senior Team Alignment

The senior leadership team of a private equity backed luxury design requested a half-day workshop as part of their annual leadership retreat. The team, comprised of leaders in their first senior-level role, were struggling to collaborate effectively. They sought to understand their individual and collective behavioral preferences, examine their current and future leadership styles, and increase general team rapport.
